Kerala, also known as God’s Own Country, is immensely blessed with unique and unmatched feast of natural, socio-economic and cultural attractions, is located between north latitudes 8°18' and 12°48' and east longitudes 74°52' and 72°22' with a total land area of 38,863 square kilo meters bordering Arabian Sea at the west and the Western Ghats to the east.
Located at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent and occupies just 1.18% of India’s total land area but offers a lot of attractions like serene beaches, enchanting backwaters, coast line, beaches, mist clad hills stations, lush forests, exotic wildlife, exciting trekking trails, waterfalls, extensive plantations and farms, tropical islands, invigorating monsoons, Ayurvedic health centers, historic monuments and museums, botanical gardens and zoological museums, sacred pilgrim centers, spectacular art forms, festivals, splendid cultural heritage, spectacular boat races, spicy cuisine, multi-culture and religions , unique climate, boat houses, yoga centers, hotels, resorts, and much more!!!.

Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, is the friend and guide for development and promotion of the tourism industry in the state. Kerala has emerged as the most acclaimed tourist destination of the country in the recent past. World Travel and Tourism Council has selected Kerala as a Partner State. National Geographic Travel after 2 years of research has chosen Kerala, as one of the 50 must see destinations of a lifetime. Kerala has been stated as one of the 10 paradises of the World. Kerala has also been awarded the Best Performing State Award for the year 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 by ‘Government of India’ for achieving rapid growth, development and advancement in the tourism sector. Kerala Tourism has also won the Best Performing State Award instituted by Outlook Traveler for the year 2000-2001.

Government has declared tourism as an industry as far back as in 1986 and offers incentives and concessions to the industry to promote tourism products in the state
